Back to School and Wellness Fair!

It seems odd to think about school supplies when we just finished a great school year. However, the new school year will be upon us soon (school starts back in just 1 month!) In these hard economic times we predict there will be an even greater need in our area for families seeking assistance with their child’s needed school supplies.

To help these families we are actively collecting school supplies.

There is still a great need for the following:
• Bookbags
• Pencil pouches
• Spiral Notebooks
• Large erasers
• Primary manuscript writing tablets
• Glue Sticks
• Wide-rule notebook paper
• clipboards
• Blunt-tipped Scissors
• 3 Ring Binders
• Marble Composition Books
• Highlighters
• 2 Pocket Folders
• Colored pencils

Additionally- we need volunteers! We need individuals, families, youth groups, children’s groups, and adult Sunday schools to help organize and pack school supplies starting the week of July 26th.
We will also need volunteers to help set up for the event on August 6th and volunteers to work the event on the 7th. If you are available for any of these opportunities-please call (864-578-1379) or email us at info@upstatefrc.org.

Check out our NEW WEBSITE!!!

Upstate Family Resource Center gains new website via partnership with Clemson Compassion Project and LaunchSomething, LLC

Boiling Springs, SC, June 1, 2010 — The Upstate Family Resource Center unveils its new website this week in an effort to educate and connect the communities in District Two.

The Upstate Family Resource Center’s administration and board of directors has worked over the last several months with LaunchSomething LLC to create a website that will be a valuable source of information for families, especially those in District Two. The Center was the recipient of a grant from the Clemson Compassion Project that enabled them to execute a community survey, have a board retreat to review and analyze information gathered, and create a marketing plan and a strategic plan. All of this work culminated in a new website rich with information on programs and services offered at the Center as well as links to other resources beneficial to families. The new website will also provide individuals the opportunity to make secured online donations to the Center.

“Our new website will allow us to easily connect with families and provide helpful information about resources in our community. It will also give us a platform to share information about issues that affect families and link them to other organizations outside of our community. It will be a great tool to help us stay in touch with our community.” Says director Kelley Ezell.

The Upstate Family Resource Center is a non-profit organization located in northern Spartanburg County. It serves the Spartanburg County School District Two and surrounding areas. Its mission is to empower families by implementing education and assistance programs that build and maintain healthy productive families.

Calling all bargain hunters and spring cleaners!

This year the Upstate Family Resource Center is partnering with other non-profit organizations in Spartanburg County for “Rummage for a Reason.” Rummage for a Reason will be held on April 16th and 17th 8:00am- 2:00pm at the North Town Shopping Center on Asheville Highway in Spartanburg. It is a community style yard sale where each participating organization has a booth and collects items to sell at this 2 day yard sale. All of the profits from the items that we collect and sell will come straight back to the Resource Center to help us continue to serve those in need in our area. (Profits are not pooled between the participating organizations.)
There are 3 ways to help out:

1. Shop!
Please come out, find some great bargains, and support us (and the other non-profits in Spartanburg County) just by garage-sale shopping!

2. Donate items for us to sell!
In order to have a successful sale, we need items to sell! We are accepting any items that you would like to donate except for clothing. We have to set up on April 15th, so we need all items dropped off at the Center no later than April 14th. If you have any questions about items to donate, just give us a call!

3. Volunteer!

We need people on Friday and Saturday to man our booth. We would split the time into shifts and we are flexible to any schedule that you have! Please just let me know if you want to help out by emailing Jessie.davis@spartanburg2.k12.sc.us .

We look forward to seeing you there! And again, if you have any questions feel free to call or emails us. All contact information is on our website at www.upstatefrc.org .
